Parent Handbook and Dayhome Policies
MY PHILOSOPHY OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION
I believe children should have fun! After all, even the experts agree that preschool
age children learn most through play. These carefree years are so short, and soon the
children will be exposed to a much more structured form of learning. During the month, many
activities take place which help promote basic skills (letter & number recognition, color
& shape recognition, large motor skills, small motor skills, etc.).
NAPS
All children under the age of four to have a rest time (and I haven't met one yet who doesn't need it!).
I will provide a safe, warm, quiet place for your child to rest. Children under the age of two will
always be in a crib or playpen. Children who wake up before the rest will be guided in
finding a quiet time activity to engage in that will not disturb any sleeping children.
SIGN IN/ SIGN OUT
Each day upon arriving, the parent is required to sign his child(ren) in, noting the time arrived. A
sign-in/out pad, pens, and a clock are all located by the door. This is to be
followed by signing the child (ren) out when they leave. This gives me a written
record of the child's attendance, hours, and who brought/picked up the child.
ILLNESS
I will not care for a child who is feverish. If (s)he has thrown up or had diarrhea within the last
24 hours please keep him/her home. If (s)he has a green discharge from his/her nose (s)he must
be on an antibiotic (if needed) for 24 hours before he can attend. If your child throws up the night
before and seems fine the next day, (s)he is more than likely still contagious to the others.
You must wait 24 hours before your child can return. All the children use the same toilet and
washroom and they often "mouth" the same toys.
Illnesses are defined as:
**Fever **Conjunctivitis (pink eye) or "cold in the eye" **Flu
**Unusual rash **Severe cough **Rapid breathing or labored breathing **Severe cold
**Vomiting **Yellowish skin or eyes **Diarrhea **Head lice
**Contagious illness of any sort which results in child being too ill to participate in daily activities.

Fee Payment Guidelines
Fees are paid in advance either on the 1st or the 15th of each month Harmony Dayhome will decide based on your childs enrollment date.
There is no change in fees due to your child’s absences. In the case of your vacation or extended
absence make arrangements to provide the monthly payment in advance if needed.
Late payments – A $10 late payment fee (per child, per day) applies for any payment not received
on the due date.
As well, a fee of $35.00 will be charged on all NSF cheques
Termination
Parents are required to give one month’s written notice to terminate your child’s enrollment.
There is a trial period of 2 weeks from the date child care begins. If the child care arrangements is
not mutually satisfactory, either party can terminate this agreement with a 1(one) day notice within
the first 2 weeks. The first two weeks fees are not refundable.
